Healthcare Tips After IVF Procedure

What to consider before doing IVF?

Approximately one in six couples experience infertility, making it a fairly common problem. The reasons for infertility are typically shared by the woman in 40% of cases and the men in 40% of cases, with 20% coming from a mixture of both. IVF is used to help conceive in about 5% of infertile couples. Other fertile people, such as same-sex partners, single women, those with genetic diseases, and those who want to have a rescue sibling, also use IVF. As a result, IVF is now used to deliver one in every fifty babies.

Before going for IVF, know the facts properly.

  • Beforehand, you should examine your health.

The chance of success with IVF can be significantly increased by maintaining a healthy weight, abstaining from drugs like tobacco, and drinking only in moderation. Prior to trying for a baby, strive to control any medical concerns like diabetes and high blood pressure.

  • There will be negative effects.

During your IVF cycle, be prepared to feel extra emotional because your body will be producing a lot of hormones. Minor physical side effects from fertility injections can also happen, including pressure, cramps or swelling in the pelvic region, breast tenderness, and discomfort.

Unfortunately, not everyone has success with IVF. Some people become pregnant on their first try, while others need to try again one or two more times, and some people are unsuccessful even after numerous tries. The majority of what determines whether IVF is successful is your age. When using their own eggs, women had an IVF success rate of 48% for those under the age of 35 and just 3% for those beyond the age of 42.

  • IVF takes a lot of effort and time.

IVF is a time-consuming procedure that requires numerous medical appointments. The steps of the IVF process are as follows.  You’ll take fertility drugs (often self-administered shots) for 10–12 days to encourage the ovaries to generate lots of eggs. You’ll need to visit the doctor’s office virtually daily for blood work or ultrasound scans throughout that period.

Under deep anesthesia, the doctor will extract your eggs from the ovaries and mix them with your partner’s sperm in a lab. One or more of the embryos will be implanted back into the uterus for 3 to 5 days just after egg retrieval.

You’ll go back to the doctor two weeks later for blood pregnancy testing to see if the IVF was successful.
