    What is Laser-Assisted Hatching?

    Laser-Assisted Hatching (LAH) is an advanced fertility technique used during the IVF process to improve the chances of embryo implantation. In this technique, a thin opening is made in the outer shell of the embryo (called the zona pellucida) using a precise laser beam, just before the embryo is transferred to the uterus.

    The goal of LAH is to help the embryo “hatch” out of its shell more easily and implant into the uterine lining, especially in patients with previous failed IVF cycles or poor embryo quality.

    How to Prepare for Laser-Assisted Hatching

    • Standard IVF preparation, including ovarian stimulation, egg retrieval, fertilization, and embryo culture.

    Laser-Assisted Hatching Procedure – Step by Step

    1. Embryo Formation
      After egg retrieval and fertilization in the lab, embryos are cultured to the Day 3 (cleavage stage) or Day 5 (blastocyst stage).

    2. Embryo Assessment
      The embryologist checks the thickness and condition of the zona pellucida under a high-powered microscope. If needed, LAH is planned before transfer.

    3. Laser Application
      Using a high-precision laser system, a tiny opening is made in the zona pellucida without damaging the embryo. This process takes only a few seconds and is extremely accurate and safe.

    4. Embryo Transfer
      After hatching, the embryo is immediately transferred into the uterus where it has a higher chance of successful implantation.
